Blackburn Rovers considered Swansea City summer signing

Rovers travel to South Wales in excellent form, having won four of their last six matches, losing just once.

Swansea have been table-toppers for most of the campaign, though they have lost their last two matches. It could be a good time to play them, or they could be dealing with a wounded animal.

The Rovers boss wants to treat the game as a free hit, up against a side who he thinks are amongst the best in the division, including Elijah Just, who they were interested in signing last summer.

"It's a really, really tough challenge this weekend," he explained.

"Having studied them this week, it's not by accident that Swansea have been right at one or two in the league all season.

"They're extremely hard-working; they do a lot of running, a lot of pressing. I think the coach was with Jurgen Klopp for five years and they're very intense.

"They've got some really talented players who have pretty expensively put together a football team.

"If you think Elijah Just is a player that we were looking at pretty hard and yet he ended up going for five, six, seven million or whatever it was.

"It's just a great challenge for us this week, one that we're looking forward to.

"On the back of three points at home, it helps us prepare and relax into the game and make sure that we give it our very best shot.

"We're looking forward to this challenge against a really good team. Hopefully, we can give them problems and let's see how it goes."

Swansea were thumped 5-0 by QPR last time out in a shock result of the weekend. They'd narrowly lost 1-0 to West Ham beforehand but this was an unexpected battering.

That result was a shock to Mowbray, who still sees the game as a 'free swing' to see where Rovers are at.

"I think it's really a surprise to me," he said.

"I think I referenced the Wrexham game, that it would be great to get three points against Wrexham and go and have almost a free swing at Swansea, a team that's been up first or second in the league all season, and go and test ourselves and see where we think we are.

"I've been watching them this week. I think they're a good team. I think they've got some good processes.

"They play with a number six and two eights, but not as structured as some teams that we've played who play that way.

"Not structured means sometimes a bit of chaos in certain areas is often coachable against, if that makes sense, because you can't prepare for it, they have a bit of that about them.

"You can see that they all run, they all press really hard, and they work extremely hard and create chances. So, a day of concentration for us.

"Hopefully we get all the work done this week and we can go there and, as I said, almost have a free hit, go and see how we get on and let's test ourselves."
