O'Shaquie Foster vs Emanuel Navarrete picks, predictions: Who wins Saturday title fight?

The junior lightweight division is closing in on a new undisputed champion, with WBC titlist O'Shaquie Foster facing two-belt champion Emanuel Navarrete in a unification bout from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Oct. 24.

Each fighter looks to be at the peak of their powers, with Navarrete only months removed from a stoppage win over then-IBF champion 'Sugar' Nunez and Foster fresh off a pair of career-best victories against former world champions. The winner will emerge with three of the division's four belts, leaving WBA champion Anthony Cacace as the last hurdle for undisputed status.

"He is a great champion. He looks very good, very solid, very confident, and I think that will help us put on an excellent fight," Navarrete told Top Rank. "Knowing how Foster boxes and what I can offer inside the ring, I think we’re going to try to pressure him and look to land to the body so that he starts slowing down and we can catch him more cleanly and more often in the later rounds."

Here are expert picks and predictions ahead of Foster and Navarrete's three-belt unification fight.

O'Shaquie Foster vs Emanuel Navarrete picks, predictions

Tim Bradley Jr., Hall of Fame inductee: Foster win

"I think it's going to boil down to this, who's going to back up who," Bradley said on his YouTube channel. "Or who has the ability to back (the other) up more times than not. Navarrete, if he can back up Foster, he can pile up points. Maybe even hurt Foster. But if Foster backs up Navarrete, pushes him back, southpaw and orthodox, occasionally playing with the distance on him. Make him fall short, get off, make him miss on the return fire, (Foster) can win. He can win this fight with flying colors, easy win for him.

"But if he wants to sit back and be cute and play defense, Navarrete is going to build up more and more steam. And another thing he has to watch out for, Navarrete will change gears on you in a minute. You think he's fighting a certain speed and then next thing you know he's throwing 50, 100 punches a round. And it's hard to get away from that because the punches are coming from all kinds of angles.

"Navarrete is a bad boy, but so is Foster ... I've been (picking) Foster all day. He's got more skills. I think he's got a lot to prove as well. And I know for damn sure, Navarrete never wanted this fight ..."

Antonio Tarver, Hall of Fame inductee: Foster by decision

"It's going to be a good fight," the former world champion said on his YouTube channel. "If Foster is moving, giving him angles and staying out front, boxing his head off − make him miss, make him pay type thing − you can expect Foster to run away with a decision. But if Navarrete can create some exchanges, which I believe he's the power puncher in this fight, he can create some exchanges with some pressure and catch Foster with some clean shots. Foster might have to dig deep to pull this one out.

"I'm leaning toward Foster, but I wouldn't be surprised if (Navarrete's) pressure set the tone. So we're going to be looking for a close one. I like Foster by decision, but if Navarrete puts that pressure on, hurts him, stops him inside, I wouldn't be surprised."

Robert Garcia, acclaimed trainer: Navarrete win

"O'Shaquie can box a little too, but you can't outbox Navarrete," Garcia told YSM Sports Media. "Navarrete could throw an uppercut from one corner to the other and still land it. That's just his style. His last fight, I think it's the first time he hired a nutritionist, so he was more strict with his diet. He was in better shape ... he looked sensational in that fight. He was the underdog and was able to put a beating on 'Sugar' Nunez. So I think he feels the same way against O'Shaquie.

"O'Shaquie is a great fighter, tremendous warrior. I think O'Shaquie has improved so much since he became champion. He's getting better and better since he became champion. Every title defense he has, he's getting better and better. So it's going to be a great fight. It's tough to pick a winner. I lean toward Navarrete but it's tough, it's tough, because that fight could go either way."

Harrison Campbell, The Tennessean: Navarrete by decision

"A pick 'em fight is exactly what you'd hope for with three world titles on the line. The clash of styles should make for an intriguing battle in the ring, with Foster the superior technical boxer and Navarrete the more dangerous power puncher.

"Foster will look to establish the jab early and stick behind it the remainder of the fight, keeping Navarrete at a distance while using his elite defense to avoid Navarrete's rangier punches. While Navarrete is certainly a capable fighter from distance, against Foster he'll lose a boxing match every time.

"Instead he'll need to turn it into a fight, getting inside on Foster where he can surprise him with shots from angles and ideally make him uncomfortable with power punches. Forcing Foster out of his comfort zone is far easier said than done, but Navarrete possesses the arsenal to do just that, and if he manages to hurt Foster then the fight could quickly swing in his favor."
