Steven Gerrard is said to be eyeing a move to Wrexham as the heat intensifies on manager Phil Parkinson.

The Red Dragons squandered a 1-0 advantage to suffer a 2-1 defeat against West Brom at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday. That loss has left Wrexham languishing in 17th place after 10 Championship fixtures, with reports emerging that Parkinson's position is coming under mounting scrutiny.

And talkSPORT reports that Liverpool legend Gerrard, who has been without a managerial role since departing Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, would be receptive to the position should it become available. The same reports suggest that former Burnley manager Scott Parker is another candidate in the frame.

Parker's tenure at Burnley came to an end by mutual consent following the Clarets' relegation to the Championship.

Parkinson is understood to be facing growing pressure after a turbulent start to the campaign. Wrexham sits 17th, just three points from the relegation zone after 10 matches this season.

The Welsh outfit narrowly missed out on the playoffs by just two points in 2025/26 and made considerable investment in its squad ahead of a fresh promotion bid this term. The club brought in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, alongside the arrivals of Danny Imray, Joe Worrall, Callum O'Hare and several others, with total expenditure surpassing $40 million.

Parkinson remains confident that he can lead the team to the playoffs. "I think last year, people kind of stir up a bit of negativity, which is just part and parcel of being a manager," he said.

"We're just looking at the overall picture; we're one point ahead of where we were last year when we got ourselves going.

"We finished so close to the playoffs, and I'm very confident that we'll be able to achieve that again this season.

"We've just had a disrupted start, and of course, when that happens, criticism comes your way as a manager, it comes the players' way, and everybody is under the spotlight. But that's just the nature of football. I think everybody can see on the outside that we've got a decent squad.

"I'm confident for me and the staff and the players to batten down the hatches, to concentrate on what we've got to do at the weekend, to get ourselves up and running again, and we'll have a strong season."

Gerrard's tenure in management began impressively, steering Rangers to a historic unbeaten Scottish Premiership title triumph in 2021.

The achievement earned him an opportunity at Aston Villa, where he took over from Dean Smith, yet he could only guide the Midlands club to a 14th-place Premier League finish before being shown the door the following campaign after securing just two victories from 12 outings.

Gerrard then spent around 18 months at Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, winning 23 of his 59 games in charge.
