Christian Watson was forced to receive medical attention on Thursday night during the Green Bay Packers’ victory over the Carolina Panthers.
The wide receiver was able to rack up 113 receiving yards at Lambeau Field but his longest catch of the night also led to him requiring medical attention. Watson was forced to leave the field and even had to make a visit to the hospital before returning to Lambeau in an ambulance.
However, in dramatic style, Watson was able to emerge from the ambulance and return to the field. Speaking after the game to the reporters inside the locker room, Watson was able to provide an update on the injuries he had suffered against the Panthers.
Watson is enjoying a seriously impressive 2026 season which has already seen him rack up over 700 receiving yards and six touchdowns. There will be some concern for the wideout as he admitted he was coughing up blood at one stage and has suffered a fairly significant injury.
“I think I just came down on the ball or my elbow or something, and I just couldn’t breathe on the field. I was just got the wind knocked out of me. Then I went back to the sideline, and I was kind of spitting up some blood or something like that,” said Watson.

He wanted to keep playing immediately, but he was coughing up blood on sideline. Tests checked out at hospital. Just a broken rib. Never stopped saying he’d return, but didn’t know until leaving hospital.

“The doctors said I had to go get a CT. I was trying to beg them to not make me do that, but it is what it is. Thankfully, I was able to get the CT, and everything looked good. I had just got a rib, that’s all, but everything, all the other stuff, the major stuff, was all good. No internal bleeding or anything like that. I was able to get back out there, but it was an experience for sure.”
There will now be some concerns over Watson’s rib injury which clearly caused him some discomfort. Mike Evans may provide Packers fans with some optimism with the veteran WR having played through numerous weeks this season with broken ribs.
