The Scotland midfielder missed the four Nations League games after undergoing a procedure to correct irregular heart rhythms.
But he is set to return for the remaining two games next month and netted a double in the Champions League as Napoli defeated Bodo/Glimt 4-3. And he believes he is almost back to peak fitness.
McTominay said: "For me it was all about keeping my head down and working hard. I still have to complete more physical programs to get back to my best level, and I feel I'm very close to that now. I can still improve, though.
"We have been going through a difficult phase, and we know we have to perform better, but scoring four goals is a good start. All I want is to help the team as much as possible, and the important thing was to get the result, and we did that.
"I'm lucky I get to play with Kevin De Bruyne because he is an incredible player. We have a great midfield, and we need to exploit his and our qualities."
