Blow Your Wad aiming to give Moore brothers a big pot

The eight-year-old picked up good prize-money last season with host of big runs in valuable handicaps, going on to finish fourth in the Ultima at the Festival and second in the Oaksey Chase at Sandown.

And Moore, who trains in partnership with his brother Jamie following the retirement of their father Gary earlier this month, is looking for the Charlie Hall to be the perfect stepping stone to the Aintree showpiece later in the season.

Moore said: “All being well the Charlie Hall Chase is where we will start him. He looks very well and we’re very happy with where he is to start.

“He’s very consistent and we’re very happy with how he went throughout the year last year coming close in the Ultima and the Greatwood and hopefully he can carry that form into the new season.

“We got the Grand National in the back of our minds for him, he picked up good prize-money in the Ascot Chase last year and we’ll keep an eye on all those big chases. He’s a versatile type of horse so we’ll just see what we can do with him.”

Blow Your Wad is one of 10 entries for the Grade Two event with last year’s second Pic d’Orhy, now in the care of Dan Skelton after transferring from Paul Nicholls, potentially one of the chief dangers alongside The Real Whacker, who won the race two years ago.

Skelton also has Doyen Quest and Riskintheground entered, while Nicholls could be double-handed with Hitman and Twinjets.

Ben Pauling’s Handstands, Konfusion for Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith and Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies’ Master Chewy completes the potential list of 10.

Strong Leader is in line to defend his crown in the other Grade Two on the card, the bet365 Hurdle.

The Olly Murphy-trained nine-year-old is one of eight at the five-day entry stage with Tom Symonds’ Rendlesham Hurdle winner Lud’or and French Ship potential opponents.
