‘They Are Very Unhappy’ — Super Bowl Champion Urges Giants To Make Trade for $44M All-Pro To Solve Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr. Dilemma

Week 6 saw the New York Giants fall to the New Orleans Saints, but there was a silver lining: J.J. McCarthy’s debut. One man Giants fans did not see on the field, though, was running back Cam Skattebo.

Skattebo, the team’s leading rusher this season, was healthy and active for the game, but did not get a carry against New Orleans. McCarthy, who entered the game midway through, finished as the team’s leading rusher.

There’s been more than enough speculation since then over how the Giants will handle their RB room, and one former offensive lineman believes there is a perfect solution on the trade market.

Giants Urged To Swing Jonathan Taylor Trade

Super Bowl champion Andrew Whitworth was working Amazon Prime’s coverage of Thursday Night Football. Before the Week 7 clash between the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears, Whitworth suggested the Giants go for broke to fix their running back situation.

“If you look across the league, with Chris Ballard being fired as the GM in Indianapolis, there should be an arms race around the league for some of the veteran talent there. You got a lot of guys entering the final years of their contracts, some talented football players,” Whitworth began.

“The New York Giants, that’s the one I have circled. In the NFC, you think of that running back situation they’re very unhappy with. What has John Harbaugh done since he came from Baltimore? He’s brought a whole lot of Baltimore influence into that team… Could he go get his Derrick Henry? Bring Jonathan Taylor to the New York Giants,” Whitworth continued.

The Giants could be in a position to make a splash. New York sits atop the NFC East at 3-2-1. The Washington Commanders are 1-4-1, while the Philadelphia Eagles have lost quarterback Jalen Hurts for the season. The Dallas Cowboys are 2-4, but could still challenge New York for the division.

Taylor would certainly make a ton of sense as a trade candidate. As Whitworth pointed out, the Indianapolis Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard after Week 6. In 10 seasons, Ballard’s Colts played just three playoff games.

This has created the potential for a fire sale at the upcoming NFL Trade Deadline. If the Colts are open for business, Taylor could be one of the most in-demand players on the market.

This season, Taylor has scored seven touchdowns while racking up 655 yards from scrimmage. His 80.6 PFN RB Impact Grade ranks #10 in the league.

Taylor’s contract is part of the reason he could be on the move. He signed a two-year, $44 million extension in August, keeping him under contract through 2028. However, ESPN’s Dan Graziano has noted that the deal does not necessarily prevent Indianapolis from trading him.

What the Colts do with their talent certainly remains to be seen. In any event, the Giants make sense as a potential landing spot. If they can find an agreeable deal, Taylor would be a massive upgrade for New York.
