27yo not closing the door on Tottenham exit amid La Liga interest

Tottenham star Pedro Porro has been heavily linked with a return to Spain.

Pedro Porro was one of the key figures for Tottenham Hotspur in beating the drop last season. The full-back signed a new deal in N17 before winning the World Cup with Spain over the summer.

The 27-year-old had a slightly blighted start to the new season, arriving back late after a taxing World Cup campaign with Spain, where he was their starting right-back in the 1-0 win over Argentina in the final. Pedro Porro sustained a hamstring injury in September that kept him sidelined for a month, but he returned to action in Tottenham’s 2-0 away win at Chelsea, making a cameo appearance off the bench.

Pedro Porro makes huge transfer admission amid interest from Spanish heavyweights

Despite penning a bumper new deal until 2031, Porro has been linked with an exit from Spurs in recent weeks. Barcelona and Real Madrid have been mooted as possible destinations for the defender, who could reportedly be tempted to switch to La Liga in 2027.

Now, Porro has admitted that he would “love” to return to Spain one day. He has denied receiving offers from Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer but wants to move back to his homeland at some point in his career.

“Obviously, I’d love to return to Spain someday. It’s my country, and I like the league,” Porro said in an interview to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser‘s El Larguero.

“Right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I’m under contract, but obviously, I’d love to go back to Spain; it’s a big dream of mine.”

Tottenham unlikely to let Porro leave in January

Recent reports have suggested that it would be ‘almost impossible’ to get Porro out of Tottenham in the January window, as Roberto De Zerbi considers him a key part of his plans. The new contract has not stopped Barcelona and Real Madrid from expressing an interest in the right-back, but the Lilywhites continue to maintain their stance on their prized asset.

A player of Porro’s quality and experience is tactically vital to Tottenham’s setup. Operating as an inverted full-back who regularly tucks into midfield positions, the Spanish international’s ability on the ball, spatial awareness and defensive diligence remain a central pillar of Spurs’ build-up play under De Zerbi.

The Don Benito-born star has undergone a phenomenal transformation in the last couple of years, refining his defensive capabilities while remaining a strong attacking outlet on the right flank. So there’s no doubt why De Zerbi and Tottenham have no plans to part ways with Porro next year, despite growing interest from Spanish heavyweights.
