Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner is a tight end to start in fantasy football in Week 7 as Seattle prepares to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
Barner has gotten off to a slow start to the year, but his role in the passing game may provide an opportunity for him to produce up to expectations against a defense that has not been the most formidable of the bunch in limiting opportunities to opposing tight ends.
The veteran Barner has recorded 15 receptions for 138 yards this season, though he has yet to score a receiving touchdown through six games played. In his most recent game against Denver, he caught three passes for 16 yards on four targets. While his recent numbers offer limited fantasy upside, his involvement in Seattle's offense keeps him in consideration for managers seeking help at tight end.
Despite Kansas City having a stingy defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest receiving yards (1,120) and second-fewest REC touchdowns (4) to opponents this season, Barner is still a player who has the chops to have a big game against any team, and given the fact that he has yet to have an explosive performance on the season, coupled with the fact that the Seahawks are reeling of late, he may come alive in the key matchup this week.
Barner figures to be a a dependable target when pressure builds in the game. Crisp, timely completions may help Darnold reduce turnovers, establish a rhythm and keep drives alive. Although Barner remains a speculative fantasy play, his potential role makes him worth deploying in Week 7.
