Backstage News On Internal Reaction To GUNTHER’s Current WWE Booking

Fans have expressed considerable criticism regarding how "The Ring General" GUNTHER has been booked in 2026. Since retiring wrestling legends John Cena and AJ Styles in quick succession last December and during the Royal Rumble, GUNTHER has struggled to find his footing. Although he has been involved in the Undisputed WWE Championship scene, he has not been the central focus. He experienced a setback when he lost a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match against CM Punk and Finn Bálor, followed by several weeks of interactions with Danhausen.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, sources within the company have reported a “mild sense” of frustration and confusion regarding GUNTHER’s booking. The report suggested that his direction has raised questions among creative team members, highlighting uncertainty about how the company plans to utilize him, especially given the momentum he once had. Some are even questioning if there was a plan for GUNTHER after his victory over Cena.

Recently, GUNTHER showcased his dominance by destroying Danhausen on SmackDown, which led to Bálor coming to Danhausen's aid. GUNTHER then overpowered Bálor, powerbombing him through a table. As of now, there is no information on the company's plans for GUNTHER following his recent interactions with Danhausen and Bálor.
