Nets rank as 8th-most valuable NBA franchise prior to 2026-27 season

The Brooklyn Nets rank as the eighth-most valuable NBA franchise heading into the 2026-27 season, according to Kurt Badenhausen of Sportico.

The Brooklyn Nets are a few days away from officially beginning their 2026-27 regular season when they host the Charlotte Hornets at Barclays Center on Wednesday to begin a new year. Brooklyn is hoping to win more games that they did in the 2025-26 campaign (20) and with there being talk about the Nets' next step, the franchise is among the higher-valued teams in the NBA.

According to Kurt Badenhausen of Sportico, the Nets are the eighth-most valued franchise in the NBA, with the team listed at a $7.45 billion valuation heading into the new season. The only teams ahead of the Nets are the Golden State Warriors ($14.5 billion), New York Knicks ($12.8 billion), Los Angeles Lakers ($12.5 billion), Los Angeles Clippers ($8.21 billion), Chicago Bulls ($8.13 billion), Miami Heat ($8.05 billion), and Boston Celtics ($8 billion).

"The average NBA team is worth $6.64 billion, according to Sportico’s calculations, up 21% versus last year and 183% from 2020, when the average was $2.35 billion," Badenhausen wrote in his article. Not only are the Nets considered one of the more valuable teams in the league, likely somewhat due to being located in New York City, but it seems like the entire NBA is becoming more profitable as times goes on.

To add some perspective, the Nets have essentially benefitted from moving from New Jersey to Brooklyn, even though some people around the league continue to insist that the Nets were better off staying put. In the year prior to the Nets moving to Brooklyn in 2013, the franchise was valued at $357 million. After their first year in Brooklyn, the Nets were valued at $530 million.

Either way, the Nets have been among the more valuable NBA teams for quite some time and it's fair to wonder if that fact will factor into owner Joe Tsai's timing with the current rebuild. Brooklyn added former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle to a roster led by forward Michael Porter Jr. and guard Egor Demin so with the value of the franchise no longer in question, the Nets are now focused on winning as many games as possible.
