Kevin Danso, on loan at Sunderland form Tottenham, has apologised after getting sent off in the Black Cats' Premier League defeat to Bournemouth. The defender was shown a straight red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
The Austrian completed 90 minutes in four consecutive Premier League matches heading into the game but lasted just 17 against the Cherries when he hauled down Evanilson as the Brazilian forward looked to go through on goal. VAR upheld referee Craig Pawson's decision as Sunderland eventually fell to a fourth successive Premier League defeat.
It was a nightmare afternoon for Danso after he had also been involved in the confusion that saw Marcus Tavernier open the scoring after just six minutes at the Vitality Stadium. Evanilson eventually got on the scoresheet in the second period, with Danso only able to watch from the sidelines.

The defender felt compelled to apologise for his actions on social media. Taking to Instagram on Monday morning, Danso shared a black-and-white photograph of his exit from the pitch accompanied by a message.
"Unacceptable. Apologies," he said.
Danso's side sit a point ahead of Tottenham, having played a game more than his parent club. Spurs welcome Coventry to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, looking to leapfrog Sunderland on Monday evening.
Danso joined Sunderland at the end of the summer transfer window on a loan deal worth £2.5million. Regis Le Bris can keep the 28-year-old at the Stadium of Light by making his move permanent for £22.5m at the end of the season.

The former Lens defender clocked up 52 appearances for Spurs after joining the club in January 2025, and earned the opportunity to play European football by making his exit as Tosin Adarabioyo arrived in north London from Chelsea.
Danso does not expect to return to Tottenham, judging by his emotional farewell message.“Every chapter has its moment, and now it’s time for a new one," he said.
“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey at @spursofficial. To my teammates, coaches, staff and, most importantly, the fans. Thank you for the memories, the support and everything you’ve given me along the way.
“I’ll always be grateful for the time I’ve spent here and for the people I’ve met who have made this chapter so special. There have been many moments I’ll carry with me for the rest of my career.
“Leaving is never easy, but I leave with nothing but gratitude and pride for what we’ve shared. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this club.
“894. Forever part of the story.”
