Michael Carrick has now spoken out on the ongoing situation surrounding Lisandro Martinez after the Manchester United star’s outspoken comments earlier this week.
Lisandro Martinez dropped a bombshell interview after his side’s Champions League tie, as Manchester United lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The 28-year-old Argentine defender came out swinging after he heavily criticised Ineos’ lack of summer spending for Michael Carrick’s Red Devils first-team squad.
Martinez’s scathing remarks included targeting director of football Jason Wilcox for his role in United not strengthening key positions ahead of the current season.
"It’s done, really… as a group we’ve moved on, it’s not a drama. The boys have trained really well, there’s a really good feeling around the squad. They were in good spirits in training."

Michael Carrick sat down with members of the media on Friday afternoon for his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leeds United match. The 45-year-old Manchester United manager was asked about Lisandro Martinez’s comments after the Atletico Madrid match, but he admitted that he had not fully heard what his player had said.
Carrick has now revealed that Martinez will be in the United squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Elland Road and has not been left out as a punishment for his controversial remarks.
“He’s part of the squad, yeah,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.
Carrick added: “We have moved on pretty quickly.”
The United legend explained what also happened in the meeting involving Argentina international Martinez and the Red Devils’ hierarchy on Thursday.
“It was pretty simple: we all understood the situation and what it meant,” Carrick continued.
“He made the statement and acknowledged it was a mistake on his part. We have a really good feeling within the group, the spirit and togetherness…”
Martinez has since released a public statement on social media and the former Ajax star apologised for how he approached his post-match interview. According to BBC Sport on Thursday, it has been reported that Martinez was ‘formally punished’ for his actions by being fined.
