On-loan defender Ronald Araujo insists it is too early to consider his Liverpool future after just 10 appearances.

The former Barcelona captain was a surprise addition in the summer but he has adapted quickly, establishing himself as first-choice right-back despite his preference to play centrally.

Liverpool have a £47m option to buy the Uruguay international but whether they want to spend that money on a player who turns 28 in March remains debatable.

“It’s very early to talk about these things. I’m just trying to enjoy every day, continue to grow and develop every day to have that confidence,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be here, my family are also very happy but it’s a bit early to be talking about these things.”

Araujo has adapted to the Premier League quicker than some of his new team-mates – Florian Wirtz has been at the club over a year and is still finding his feet – and he has already become a fan favourite.

His versatility to play on the right is also welcomed now more than ever, with Jeremie Frimpong now joining long-term absentee Conor Bradley on the treatment table following a hamstring problem against Brentford.

“Coming to Liverpool, it’s not easy. There are those demands, that responsibility. Personally I’d already experienced that in Barcelona,” he added.

“It depends on the personality of each player and how they front that challenge. I knew it was a new challenge coming to the Premier League but from first moment I arrived I had no doubts I had to give everything here. And that’s how I live it.

“It’s not easy to be in big sides, but that’s what we came to do. That’s the work we have to do.”

Araujo is set to start for Liverpool against Villarreal in their home Champions League tie on Tuesday, a competition he has shown his value going forward in - bagging a goal and an assist in the first two games of the league phase.
