Scotland have confirmed that Jamie Ritchie and Elliot Millar Mills have been ruled out of their Nations Championship squad after suffering knee injuries at the weekend.

Edinburgh trio Ollie Blyth-Lafferty, Freddy Douglas and D’arcy Rae have been called into the squad.

Flanker Ritchie went off early in his second appearance for Glasgow and head coach Franco Smith stated afterwards that he expected the forward to be out for about four weeks.

The former Edinburgh and Scotland captain has had a difficult 2026, suffering a knee injury in Scotland’s Calcutta Cup win over England in February, which ruled him out of the rest of the Guinness Six Nations.

He then missed Scotland’s summer encounters after picking up an ankle injury in his final game for Perpignan in May.

The 30-year-old was gradually introduced to action with his new club but lasted only eight minutes of Warriors’ 29-20 win over Lions in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Prop Millar Mills suffered a leg injury just four minutes into Newcastle’s defeat by Saracens on Saturday.

Uncapped Blyth-Lafferty, 20, adds cover at tighthead after starting four games for Edinburgh this season. He started all five games at the summer’s Junior World Championship, scoring three tries. Fellow tightead Rae started in Scotland’s Six nations win over France and has just returned from a calf injury.

Openside Douglas adds cover following Ritchie’s withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Warriors full-back Josh McKay will join up with Gregor Townsend’s squad this week as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury, and Sale scrum-half Gus Warr will train with the squad this week.

Scotland open their autumn campaign against New Zealand on Saturday before hosting Australia and Japan.
