Al Michaels could not help but to bust out his singing voice on Thursday Night Football's broadcast of the Carolina Panthers' clash against the Green Bay Packers.

The Panthers' contest against the Packers at Lambeau Field was replete with action on and off the field, with a number of noteworthy moments stemming from the Week 8 matchup. Notably, a moment during the game caught the 81-year-old's attention.

This, in turn, led to the longtime NFL commentator to break out in song as his booth partner, Kirk Herbstreit, also took a moment to bask in the strange occurrence on the field.

In the Packers' 27-19 win, cameras panned to Green Bay star receiver Matthew Golden speaking with an official at the conclusion of a play. As he and the official were jogging away from the end zone, the two were spotted holding hands before another referee broke up the moment of levity.

Michaels immediately spotted the moment, telling his partner to "Look at this." He then broke out his own rendition of The Beatles' 1964 hit "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

Herbstreit then admitted that what Golden and the referee were doing was something he had never seen before, leading to an all-around moment of fun.

And while the moment provided a brief respite, in some ways Michaels did not start the broadcast well, with fans calling out that the 81-year-old botched a fumble call.

After the Packers' Coleman Owens fielded the opening kickoff, the Panthers' defense swarmed him, punching the ball out of his hands. It took Michaels a brief pause to identify what happened, though fans on X were not kind to the 81-year-old for taking a moment to properly ascertain the situation.

"IT TOOK AL MICHAELS OVER AN HOUR TO NOTICE THAT IT WAS A FUMBLE ON THE OPENING KICKOFF. SLEEPING ON THE CALL," one account wrote on X. "Packers fumbled on the FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME. Al Michaels didn't even realize," another wrote.

Others stated it was time for Michaels to retire, with one writing, "t’s time for bro to hang up the microphone."

In that same vein, during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Michaels admitted that he was not thinking about his future in the booth, despite the constant calls from fans to step away.

“Well, either the people that I work for will tell me, or I’ll know myself, a combination,” he said. “Let’s put it this way. The folks at Amazon and Prime have been fantastic. Fantastic to me.

“If they come to me and say, ‘You know, it’s time for us to move on’ … You guys have been fantastic. You’ve been great. I’ve done the NFL for 41 years, which is half my life. Love it. But you know what? At a certain time, it’s time.

“And if they feel it’s time, great. And if I feel it’s time, I’ll know it. And I’ll say, ‘You know what? Thanks for the memories.’”
