The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s Test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, with Shubman Gill leading the first three ODIs and Shreyas Iyer taking charge for the final two matches. The selection also sees Jasprit Bumrah return to the Test squad, while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s availability remains subject to fitness clearance.
India are scheduled to play five ODIs and two Test matches after the T20I leg of the tour. The ODI series begins in Auckland on November 4, while the first Test is scheduled to start in Wellington on November 19.
Gill will captain India in the first three ODIs, with Iyer serving as vice-captain. For the fourth and fifth matches, Iyer will lead the side, while Ishan Kishan has been named vice-captain and wicketkeeper.
Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their places in the ODI squads. KL Rahul is named wicketkeeper for the first three matches, while the final two fixtures include Tilak Varma and Kumar Kushagra. Kushagra has earned his maiden ODI call-up.
The two-part selection gives India an opportunity to assess different combinations during the five-match series, which will also contribute to preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Prasidh Krishna’s inclusion in the first three-match squad is subject to fitness clearance.
Gill will also captain India in the two-Test series, with KL Rahul appointed vice-captain. The squad includes established players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah returns to the Test setup, while Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj are also included. Their selection strengthens India’s pace-bowling options for the overseas assignment.
Pant has been named in the Test squad but must clear a fitness assessment before being available for selection. Dhruv Jurel is another wicketkeeping option, giving the team cover in the position.
The squad also features Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy, offering the selectors a mix of established international players and younger options.
