Marten De Roon spoke to Sky after Roma’s win over Genoa.

The Giallorossi midfielder analyzed the team’s performance, focusing on their management of the game and the quality of the squad. “I was on the pitch with a lot of young players tonight, but I’m pleased to still be at their level.”

“In the first half, we tried hard, but we played a little too much in our own half. Maybe due to a bit of fatigue, but also because there were a lot of new players on the pitch playing together for the first time.”

“In the second half, we told ourselves to play a little further forward, to also play the ball deep behind their defense. And in my opinion, after that play, when the spaces opened up and they had to attack, everything became much easier,” De Roon said.

Asked about Roma’s numerous fixtures between Serie A and the Champions League, De Roon replied: “I’ve always enjoyed playing every three days. In my opinion, it’s much better to play every three days. I think playing once a week is less fun. If you play every three days, with a lot of young players and a large squad, it’s much more fun. Then again, the only thing that can be a little difficult are the injuries that have come in recently, but I always have a great desire to play.”

And regarding the quality found in the Giallorossi dressing room, the Dutchman said: “So much quality. Above all, a very healthy group, a very healthy atmosphere, a lot of work. No one complains or puts themselves above the rest, everyone keeps their heads down. Then there are the more talented players, like Dybala and Mati, who have to make the plays. The rest of the group needs to be consistent and put in great performances. We have two players for almost every position. You see, Lulli is playing today, instead of Molina and Wesley, and they put in a great performance. Then also in defense, Balerdi, we’ve signed a lot of guys. The squad, in my opinion, is deep and strong. Now we need to find consistency and avoid too many injuries.”

Finally, a word on the move from Bergamo to Rome: “It’s different, that’s for sure, because there are, I don’t know, three or four million people here. I’m experiencing it all with great fascination. Then, in the end, the stadium is full, beautiful, with up to 75,000 people. But on the pitch, you always do the same things. It doesn’t matter if you’re in Bergamo or Rome. I still want to prove that I’m a great player, to be a big help to this group, and the first three games have gone quite well.”
