Tottenham are said to be in the market to sign a new centre forward. Roberto De Zerbi's side are in scintillating form, winning their last three Premier League matches and scoring seven goals in the process.
Despite this, it still does feel as though Spurs are missing an elite No.9 at the top end of the pitch. Dominic Solanke has been disappointing this season, having scored just once in 10 Premier League appearances. That came in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United last month, as the forward headed home late to rescue a point.
Apart from that, Solanke has flattered to deceive. The ex-Bournemouth man has underperformed his expected goals (xG) by -1.3 and has missed three big chances this season, which is among the most in the top flight.
Solanke's form has seen Tottenham fans call for the club to look in the transfer market for a new striker.
Omar Marmoush was signed from Manchester City in the summer, and although he started the game against Leeds United up front, he is not an out-and-out centre forward and has performed best in the attacking midfield role or out on the left wing.
But now, according to agent Paul O'Keefe, posting on X, Tottenham will go 'big' on signing the 'right one' in January, after he was asked about De Zerbi's men looking for a new striker. He added that the 'hunt' for a No.9 is 'on'.
Spurs have been linked with several new players in that position in recent months. Among those tipped to make the move to north London is Georges Mikautadze, who earlier this week delivered a clear message about his transfer plans.
Georgia international Mikautadze, 26, is now at Villarreal and has been in fine form since his move to Spain from Lyon in 2025. Indeed, he has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 57 appearances for the La Liga club.
Speaking to L'Equipe on his future, Mikautadze said: “I think I’m ready to go to a big club. I have everything I need, and I try to show it every time. I just maybe need a little more time.”
Did it happen before or after?

Despite Tottenham's interest, Barcelona is thought to be Mikautadze's first choice. "Yes, it’s flattering, and it motivates me even more," he said, when asked about the Catalan side. "It also means that the work is being done well. As a child, ever since the Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets era and the MSN [Messi-Suarez-Neymar] trio, I’ve been a Barca supporter. But I hadn’t really thought about it.”
Eli Junior Kroupi is another that has been linked with a move to Tottenham after impressing for Bournemouth. The Frenchman has recently returned from injury and was the star man off the bench in the Cherries' 3-1 win at Sparta Prague on Thursday.
Younes Ebnoutalib, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Donyell Malen and Igor Matanovic are among the others linked with a move to the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium, as De Zerbi searches for a new No.9 in the winter transfer window.
