Huddersfield Town midfielder Archie Collins acknowledges that he’s “still building” his match sharpness following his summer arrival from Peterborough United.

Collins joined the Terriers shortly before the start of the League One campaign, with the 27-year-old having spent pre-season as a free agent.

Ahead of this evening's encounter against his former club, Collins has featured eight times for the Terriers, consisting of six starts and two substitute appearances.

“As I didn’t have a pre-season, it was kind of building me back up to where I can get to, and I still feel like I’m building to be honest,” Collins said at a press conference on Monday.

“Still building my fitness, and still building my match sharpness, so the more games that I play, hopefully I can be better for the team and provide, that middle figure in the middle of the pitch for everyone else to do their bit as well.”

“I feel probably physically better and mentally better, and that just comes with games,” the midfielder added. “Like anything, the more you do it, the more repetitiveness, it’s just that confidence as well.

“It’s building, because it’s probably taken a bit longer than what I would’ve liked, but I’ll be honest, the staff have been brilliant and very patient, and they’ve built me up as well as they could’ve done, and they’ve been really good.”

Discussing his time at Town so far, Collins said: “The facilities, everything, it’s been unbelievable really. The stature of the club, I’m still kind of getting used to it. It takes time anywhere, so it’s been really good.

“It’s a lot further away from home, but I’ve done it before, so it’s kind of what I’m used to now in a sense. The area has been lovely, I’ve never been so close to so many different cities, there’s so much going on, I don’t know what to do with myself really.

“It’s been really good. I’m still not in our place yet, so I’m still in an apartment, but I’ll soon hopefully be settled.”

Meanwhile, Town have been drawn at home to another of Collins’ former sides, Exeter City, in the first round of the FA Cup, with the tie to be played on the weekend of Saturday November 7.
