Canada’s women’s hockey team will play a major tournament without Marie-Philip Poulin for the first time since 2008, naming its roster Monday for November’s World Championship without the injured captain.
Poulin, after undergoing surgery in July for a torn ACL and meniscus, was not at a national team training camp earlier this month, signaling her likely absence from worlds, which are Nov. 6-16 in Denmark.
Poulin played at all five Olympics and all 13 World Championships — winning a medal every year — since making her global championship debut in 2009 at age 17.
The Canadian roster for worlds is led by Ann-Renée Desbiens, the No. 1 goalie at the last two Olympics, and Renata Fast, a three-time Olympian and one of the world’s best defenders over the last decade.
Missing are veteran forwards Sarah Nurse, who led the 2022 Olympic tournament in points, and Brianne Jenner, who led the 2022 Olympic tournament in goals.
Jenner, 35, played in every Olympic and World Championship tournament since 2012. Nurse, 31, played in every Olympic and World Championship tournament since 2019.
The U.S. roster for worlds has not been named yet. The U.S. beat Canada in the final of both the 2026 Olympics and the last worlds in 2025.
