Legendary former NFL player Shannon Sharpe has blamed American singer-songwriter and TV personality Madison Beer for the LA Chargers’ poor start to the 2026 season.

In their latest game, Justin Herbert’s side suffered a heartbreaking 37-34 overtime defeat to fellow Super Bowl contenders the Buffalo Bills, extending their losing streak to five games at the start of the campaign.

The Chargers’ form marks a dramatic and sudden drop-off over the opening month of the season, raising questions over who is to blame for their struggles.

Herbert, the team’s QB1, has come under particular fire, with Sharpe - a Hall of Famer - pointing the finger at the alleged bad influence of the quarterback’s engagement during a bizarre segment on a recent podcast episode.

Shannon Sharpe Criticises Herbert and Beer's Relationship in Bizarre Podcast Ep

During pre-season, a video of Herbert looking smitten with his new fiancée went viral (as seen above), but not everyone has taken too kingly to his blossoming romance.

Sharpe believes Herbert needs to focus more on his game than his personal life. "I would love to see another QB take time off to go travel the country with their girlfriend like they allowed [Justin] Herbert to do," Sharpe said on the latest episode of the Nightcap. He continued (watch the full segment below):

"They ain’t winning more than four-five games. He’s making multiple mistakes every damn game. 121 yards for a quarterback of that caliber? Why would you even wanna take off? You’ve heard all the great quarterbacks talk about the sacrifices that must be made in order to achieve a level of greatness."

“You need to have a partner that understands. She should have told him, ‘No, babe. I need you to stay here. I need you to focus on the main thing.’ We think that everybody wants to be great.

"Everybody don’t want to be great. Everybody says they want to be great until it comes time that you have to make sacrifices in order to be great. You need a special type of partner. You need somebody that understands. You need a Savannah James.”

Jim Harbaugh is under pressure, new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is fighting for his job and Herbert has thrown five touchdowns to seven interceptions. It's been an uncharacteristic start for Herbert, who normally dominates the regular season but struggles in the playoffs.

Ochocinco's Viral Reaction to Searching What Madison Beer Looks Like

Former NFL wide receiver Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson has also gone viral for his reaction after searching up what Beer looked like live on air.

During the same segment, in response to his partner-in-crime's beliefs that the singer is playing a role in Herbert's demise, Ochocinco said he could certainly understand that argument when seeing a photo of her for the first time.

“Let me see what she looks like… Oh s—!” Johnson exclaimed as he pulled up a picture of Beer, who is also a model. “I don’t put too much cream in my coffee, but I get it.”

The Chargers will look to get their first win of the season this Sunday when they head to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. After a Week 7 bye, they’ll then take on the Los Angeles Rams, who are in similar need of getting their season on track after a disappointing 2-3 start.
