Wrexham boss backs new system despite Blackburn frustration

The Reds boss has switched to a two-striker system for the last two games and it paid off as his side won 4-1 at home to bottom of the table Preston North End 10 days ago as frontmen Kieffer Moore and Sam Smith both scored.

But Wrexham drew a blank on Saturday after losing 2-0 against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park despite having 23 attempts.

However, there were few decent chances and only one was on target as the Reds lacked a cutting edge in the final third, with Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth having very little to do.

Parkinson admitted the difference was his side's inability to convert promising build-up play into goals.

"We looked at the West Brom and Derby games and looked at making sure that we're more effective as a team," said Parkinson.

"I think we've actually done that in terms of final third entries, crosses, and it showed last week against Preston.

"At Blackburn, there's just very tight margins in the difference in the way we played.

"It's just the goals. How we set up and the build-up play, getting Callum O'Hare in the pockets and getting the wing-backs in the advanced areas, was good.

"It was just frustrating for us we couldn't get a goal."
