Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen did not shy away from acknowledging his team’s shortcomings after the disappointing 3-3 draw against Viking. Despite a spirited second-half comeback, Bayern Munich’s defensive mistakes and Michael Olise’s red card ultimately prevented the German champions from securing all three points.

Speaking during his post-match dinner speech (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Dreesen admitted that FC Bayern had not performed to their expected standards in the first half and conceded that Viking deserved to hold a 2-0 advantage.

”We had imagined the night to go differently. The first half was a half that we wish it would had gone differently. We made mistakes that we don’t want to see. So we have to say that Viking deservedly took the lead. We could see why they won their last 10 games in this stadium and won the league last season. The second half was different. The team showed energy and showed their real level. We turned things around in 17 minutes. In the stands we thought to ourselves: ‘yes, this game is now ours, we’re winning this’ - but then unfortunately we made unnecessary mistakes and got a red card. In the end, a 3-3 draw was probably a fair outcome. Now we have seven games in the next 22 days. We have to look ahead despite the disappointment of today,” Dreesen said.

Dreesen’s assessment reflected the frustration surrounding Bayern Munich’s inability to finish the job after taking control of the contest. The comeback demonstrated the team’s attacking quality, but the mistakes that followed highlighted the need for greater composure and concentration.

With seven more matches scheduled before the next international break in mid-November, Bayern Munich cannot afford to dwell on the result for long. Vincent Kompany’s side must learn from the mistakes in Norway and quickly turn its attention to the demanding run of fixtures ahead.
