Millions of FPL managers sweating ahead of Gameweek 7 after 'special' player suffers unfortunate injury
Millions of FPL managers sweating ahead of Gameweek 7 after 'special' player suffers unfortunate injury

Fantasy Premier League managers are sweating over one player's fitness ahead of the 11am deadline on Saturday (October 17) after he picked up an unfortunate injury.

After the three-week international break, many FPL managers returned to their squads to see that some of their players were yellow or red flagged after they suffered injuries while playing for their countries.

Several used the injury pile-up as an opportunity to play their wildcard chip ahead of Gameweek 7, but with the deadline just over 12 hours away, one player is giving them a headache due to his uncertain availability.

Morgan Gibbs-White could miss Gameweek 7 clash against Arsenal

Morgan Gibbs-White is owned by over a million FPL users (13.8%) at the time of writing, but Nottingham Forest's talisman is a huge doubt for their Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

Gibbs-White, who has scored 30 points from his opening six matches, suffered a muscle injury during their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

Oliver Glasner confirmed that the midfield maestro hasn't taken part in training since, making him a major doubt for their next fixture and leaving millions of FPL managers sweating over his fitness.

"Morgan Gibbs-White is doubtful. He couldn’t train the entire week with us, but it looks like he can join tomorrow’s session, and he had an individual session today with our rehab coaches,” Glasner revealed in Friday’s press conference.

“He suffered a minor muscle injury at Palace, so we have to see how he reacts today and how he deals with tomorrow’s session. Then I will take the final decision.

“In a long season, this is a situation that happens, especially when players are going away and playing for their countries for more than two weeks."

The Austrian did end by saying that there is a 'chance' the 26-year-old is available for selection against the Gunners, but the uncertainty over his fitness only causes a headache for the 13.8% of managers who own him.

Who could FPL managers replace Morgan Gibbs-White with?

Compared to last season, when everything he touched turned to gold, the 'special' Gibbs-White has endured an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 campaign, only returning a goal or an assist in two matches this season.

He delivered a monster 13-point haul, which included a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, and then helped his side secure a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa by assisting Igor Jesus for his 88th-minute winner.

At the £8m price range, there aren't many better value options in the game than Gibbs-White, though with his involvement looking doubtful, some managers may not choose to risk the Englishman by transferring him out before the 11am deadline (October 17).

The standout pick to replace him is Chelsea's Morgan Rogers, whose price has risen from £7.5m to £7.9m after a stunning start to the campaign.

Rogers has formed a devastating attacking trio with Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro since completing his British record £117million move from Aston Villa by scoring four and assisting once in six matches.

Chelsea's No. 27 is nailed to start, plays ninety minutes almost every game, produces explosive attacking numbers, and even hit 13 defensive contributions during their 5-1 hammering of Bournemouth.

Manchester United duo Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo can also be considered as Gibbs-White's replacement.

Cunha scored in United's disappointing 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last time out - his second double-digit haul in a row - and he's amassed the sixth-most points of any midfielder so far (36).

Similarly, Mbeumo has delivered a whopping 33 for the Red Devils, assisting his Brazilian teammate against Spurs, while scoring a further three times.

Both players are available for £7.9m, and given their explosive power in attack - even in an underperforming Man United team - perhaps now is the best time to take a gamble on one of them.
