Muggsy Bogues will reportedly have his No. 1 jersey retired by Hornets

Muggy Bogues will reportedly have his No. 1 jersey retired by the Charlotte Hornets on Feb. 11, 2027, before their game against the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Bogues, the shortest player in NBA history at 5-foot-3, spent parts of 10 seasons with the Hornets during his 14-year NBA career. He also played for the Washington Bullets, which drafted him 12th overall in 1987, as well as the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.

After last playing during the 2000-01 season, Bogues retired as the Hornets' franchise leader in assists, steals and minutes played. During his time in Charlotte, he, along with Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson, became faces of a team that made the playoffs three times and won 54 games in 1996-97.

Over 25 years since he last played, the 61-year-old Bogues now serves as an ambassador for the Hornets and the NBA.

In March, when asked by the Charlotte Observer about what it would mean if the Hornets retired his No. 1, Bogues said he did not "need it to go up" and that he was "happy."

"I don't need it to go up. That's good. I'm good. I'm fine with it," Bogues said after the Hornets retired Dell Curry's number. "I'm just happy for my guy, Dell, for him to get his recognition. That is definitely well deserved. I'm fine. You know, the organization doesn't have to do anything with me at all. Right now, I'm not looking down that road. They don't have to think about me in that way. I'm just happy, you know, for my brother from another mother.”

Bogues' No. 1 will join Curry's No. 30 and Bobby Phills' No. 13 as the only player numbers to have been given the honor by the Hornets.
