‘This is not an excuse any more…’ Matthias Jaissle

Matthias Jaissle watched on as his Newcastle United team lost 3-1 to Everton.

United exiting the Carabao Cup.

No last eight game at League Two Fleetwood Town standing between Newcastle United and a fourth Carabao Cup semi-final in five years.

A match that felt very similar to the 4-1 at Coventry.

This Matthias Jaissle team dominating all the stats and far more chances created than the home side, yet poor finishing and decision making plus mistakes at the back saw Everton go 3-0 up. Dan Burn finally scoring the Newcastle United goal but too little too late in the 88th minute.

Matthias Jaissle reflecting on what he as watched: “We lack in the clinical approach to solve the situations; just think about the first one…This is again a no-risk zone where we clear the ball and nothing happens, then a couple of seconds later you can see the goal out of nothing.”

The United boss adding: “These are the things we need to learn quickly. We had many occasions, many opportunities to score, big chances as well, but in their box we need to be more clinical to get a different result.”

This is the harsh reality.

Then at the other end of the pitch…

Matthias Jaissle: “We need to avoid these mistakes, be more mature, be more clinical in these situations.”

The Newcastle United Head Coach then spelling out the wider picture: “This is a learning process but you don’t get the time. We need to learn fast, especially with these young lads. Being a young team is not an excuse any more.”
