George Kittle hints scandalized former teammate will be refused entry into 49ers' facility as he plots NFL comeback

George Kittle has hinted that his scandalized former San Francisco 49ers teammate Brandon Aiyuk will be refused entry into the team's facility.

Earlier this week, the exiled Aiyuk filed paperwork to be reinstated to the NFL, with the wide receiver reportedly expected back at the 49ers' practice facility on Friday.

That is despite Aiyuk being the subject of an active arrest warrant in Santa Clara County – where the 49ers' facility is situated – after he was allegedly caught driving at 104mph outside Levi's Stadium earlier this year.

Aiyuk has not played an NFL game since tearing knee ligaments in October 2024, with many fearing for his future after a chaotic offseason saw him fail to report for training camp and threaten to tank his career to force an exit from San Francisco.

He is on the 49ers' reserve/did not report list but Aiyuk's new agent said Wednesday that the wide receiver is now plotting a comeback. 'Brandon is healthy and ready to get back on the field,' Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.

Kittle was asked whether he was looking forward to seeing Aiyuk but offered a response that suggested 49ers stars won't be welcoming him with open arms.

'Do you think he gets in the facility?' Kittle responded. He was then asked for his thoughts.

'Plead the fifth,' the tight end said. 'Yeah. You can ask [GM] John [Lynch]. Or [coach] Kyle [Shanahan]. Don't ask me. I'm a conspiracy guy.'

Even if he is reinstated to the NFL, however, Aiyuk is unlikely to ever return to the field for the 49ers. According to ESPN, the most likely outcome is San Francisco releasing him.

Both general manager Lynch and coach Shanahan have suggested the wide receiver will not play another game for the 49ers.

Shanahan was asked Wednesday what his response was to news of Aiyuk's planned return. 'None,' he said. 'I have no expectation. I've kind of moved on with that mentally... nothing has really changed for me.'

While the receiver is on the reserve/did not report list, the 49ers do not have to pay Aiyuk or make a spot for him on their roster.

San Francisco previously voided $27 million guaranteed in Aiyuk's contract for 2026 after he failed to participate in meetings and other team activities last summer while rehabilitating his knee injury.

In fact, Aiyuk has collected only $48.1 million of his four-year, $120 million contract extension. He was due a $24.9 million option bonus on September 1.

The 28-year-old has faced significant criticism over his antics and posts on social media in recent months, including crude jokes he made about Shanahan's offseason car crash.

'You can't win the race if you crash out,' Aiyuk said about Shanahan, who suffered a broken hand, three broken ribs and a concussion in a crash that nearly cost him his eye.

Aiyuk had fired agent Ryan Williams during his long-running dispute with the 49ers and was without representation until Rosenhaus said on Monday that he had been hired.

The receiver has previously suggested he wants to play alongside his former college teammate Jayden Daniels on the Washington Commanders.
