Aaron Rodgers has moved into sole possession of third place on the NFL’s all-time list for touchdown passes with 540.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback passed Peyton Manning with a 4-yard scoring toss to tight end Darnell Washington against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Oct. 25, during the first NFL game in France at Stade de France outside Paris.
Washington fought off the New Orleans defender and impressively got both feed down in bounds on the play to secure the score.
Rodgers now trails just Tom Brady (649) and Drew Brees (571) in what he has said will be his final season.
He’d need 32 more touchdowns at a robust average of about three per remaining game to pass Brees and has no realistic chance to catch Brady by year’s end.
The milestone further solidifies a likely Hall of Fame resume for the four-time former league MVP who will turn 43 later this season.
Rodgers currently sits fifth all-time on the passing yardage list with 67,761. The next player ahead of him is Brett Favre, his predecessor with the Green Bay Packers, at 71,838.
Last week, he passed Ben Roethlisberger for fifth all-time in career victories with 166.
Rodgers also has a championship to bolster his career story. He won the Super Bowl with the Packers at the end of the 2010 season.
The veteran is now in his 22nd season. He’s played the past two years with the Steelers after 18 seasons with Green Bay and a pair with the New York Jets.
His return this season included a reunion with coach Mike McCarthy, who guided Rodgers and his teammates to that Super Bowl victory 16 years ago. The duo are looking to become the NFL’s first to win a title together with two different teams.
