Unai Emery spoke to the media after Aston Villa's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.
Amine Adli opened the scoring early on, before Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez took the tie away from Villa in the second half. Here is every word Emery said in his post-match press conference...
Unai, your thoughts on the defeat?
"Since I arrived here, we played four matches and they were like today. Bournemouth are very intense and the fans feel strong. We needed to try to play with the same intensity as they were. Then, progressively get our moments to dominate the game and create chances. We have won here and drawn before too. Today we lost 3-0. But the same matches we played like today.
"We have to accept it, because we were motivated for this competition because we wanted to add players understanding our idea, like Garnacho for 30 minutes, Bizot, Taylor and Madjo. Competing here is difficult. We are out and we have to accept it, but the players did the plan. We created chances and were not clinical. I think we are disappointed, but we must try to use this match to get some positives about how some players are getting better."
What positives?
"Playing Marco Bizot, playing Taylor, Goretzka, Madjo. I think it is positive to play those players, and I think they played well. We need players. We play a lot of matches. They need to add their qualities and their capacity to grow up with us."
Was this a missed opportunity?
"Bournemouth are difficult. I started explaining that we played here four times, each very difficult. We played matches where we had to be clinical, and today. We couldn’t be."
Were you annoyed Villa didn't prevent Bournemouth's fast start?
"We knew before and we planned to try to stop them with their intensity and the ball, trying to get duels and to try to break their press, especially the first 10 minutes in each half, but we couldn’t. Then, we could dominate and create chances but we were not clinical.
"Bournemouth is a very good team and they are in good form, like we were. We played like I wanted to play. The result is bad and we are disappointed, but we have to understand how our way and process is. I explained after we beat Man City, I am thinking the same after now losing to Bournemouth."
