Mikel Arteta has admitted Arsenal are concerned about Bukayo Saka's injury which 'does not look good at all'. Saka, 25, had to be substituted in the 10th minute of Arsenal's 2-2 draw away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, with replacement Eberchi Eze breaking the deadlock shortly after.

The winger looked injured his quad while attempting a lofted pass. Post-match, Arteta was asked to provide an update.

"They (medical staff) are a bit concerned," the Arsenal manager told TNT Sports. "A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news. But we have to wait and see."

Arteta added in his press conference: "It does not look good at all. It's his quad."

Saka missed 10 games for club and country last season, suffering from hip and ankle problems. In late 2024, the England international had surgery on his hamstring, so Arsenal will hope that he doesn't need to go under the knife again.

Arteta was more upbeat about the Gunners' performance at the Allianz Arena. Arsenal surrendered their early lead by conceding goals either side of half-time before Declan Rice popped up with an equaliser late on.

"That is one of the highest levels we played," Arteta hailed. "Two teams who wanted to press each other and wanted to attack and wanted to play. It was a fascinating game.

"We started the game incredibly well, we were so dominant. Then we had to adapt without Saka. In the second half the game was a bit even and they scored the goals and we had to react, which we did. We scored and we had the chance to win it too. That is the level."

Arsenal went for Bayern both in attack and defence. Arteta deployed a man-marking strategy, with Ezri Konsa often following Harry Kane into the middle third.

Rice explained how the Gunners wanted to assert themselves. "It's what the manager has drilled into us; we aren't just going to come here and sit," the Arsenal midfielder stated.

"At home, they are probably one of the best teams in Europe, so to come here tonight and give that account of ourselves was really good. We have to keep going."

Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign this Saturday at home to Everton before they travel to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Their next Champions League fixture is away to Slavia Prague and that comes after a trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.
