Manuel Neuer believes the Metropolitano would be the perfect place to win the Champions League in the wake of Bayern Munich's victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The Champions League final will be held at the venue on June 6, and Bayern boosted their hopes of reaching the next round with a 2-0 win over Diego Simeone's side.

Bayern needed to wait until the 54th minute to take the lead when Lennart Karl took advantage of Robin Le Normand's hesitation on the ball inside his own penalty area.

Konrad Laimer sealed the win 20 minutes later after rifling into the roof of the net having been picked out by Harry Kane, with the result ensuring Bayern got back to winning ways after back-to-back draws with Viking and Arsenal.

After also beating Real Madrid 2-1 away in last season's quarter-final, Bayern have now won consecutive away games in Spain in European competition for the first time ever.

Bayern (51) are also the second top five European league side to hit 50 goals in all competitions this season after Barcelona (60).

The Bundesliga giants have not won the Champions League since beating Paris Saint-Germain in the 2019-20 final, though Neuer is confident that Bayern can end their wait for a seventh title in the competition this season.

"Yes, absolutely. And perhaps winning here now is also a good omen," Neuer told Amazon Prime of Bayern's chances of winning the Champions League.

"Of course, it's a tough, challenging road for all of us, for all the teams who are usually favourites and contenders to make it to the final here.

"We believe we can do it. We have what it takes, and we'll give everything to make it happen."

Neuer made his 164th appearance in the Champions League, moving one ahead of Lionel Messi and Thomas Muller (163), with only Cristiano Ronaldo (183) and Iker Casillas (177) appearing more often, while also keeping a clean sheet in the process.

But it was Atletico who made the better start, with Julian Alvarez bending a shot just past the right post and Pablo Barrios seeing a goal-bound effort deflect over the crossbar.

From there, Bayern assumed control of the contest and finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.91 from their 19 shots to Atletico's 1.02 from their nine attempts.

"I'd say it was total dominance from the first minute to the 93rd. Whatever Atletico threw at us, we always had an answer," Neuer said of Bayern's display.

"And we're incredibly happy, especially considering the circumstances and the fact that we've had to make some adjustments due to injuries and everything that's happened at FC Bayern in recent days.

"But I think we stuck together, gave everything we had, and made sure we could enjoy a team performance like this. It was exceptional."

Bayern will also be hoping for a return to winning ways in the Bundesliga after last weekend's 2-2 draw in Der Klassiker with Borussia Dortmund, with Mainz up next on Saturday.
