Wigan climb off foot of League One table after thriller against Bromley

Bromley had gone ahead inside six minutes when Mitch Pinnock’s long throw-in found its way to Kamarl Grant, who steered the ball home.

But Wigan were level after 18 minutes as Christian Saydee took advantage of good work from Connor Barrett to notch his third goal of the campaign.

Saydee was denied a second goal when Grant Smith made a superb save at point-blank range after K’Marni Miller’s left-wing cross found the big striker.

Miller made it 2-1 to Wigan midway through the first half after on-loan Chelsea forward Reggie Walsh’s shot had been tipped on to the crossbar by Smith.

After midfielder Charlie Gray – on loan from Manchester City – forced another brilliant save from Smith, Bromley restored parity in first-half stoppage time through George Saville.

Wigan were not to be denied, however, and on-loan Aston Villa winger Brad Burrowes fired home his first senior goal from close range 13 minutes into the second period after Barrett had poked the ball into his path.
