Isack Hadjar sent to FIA stewards as incident with fan in Mexico GP paddock emerges

Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar has been summoned to visit the FIA stewards amid a clip of him pushing aside a fan in the paddock at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Footage of Hadjar walking back to the Red Bull garage after second practice on Friday emerged on social media, with a fan approaching the Frenchman for a photo.

The fan put his arm around Hadjar and attempted to take the photo with his phone, but the Red Bull driver appeared to decline the request and gestured for the fan to move aside.

When Hadjar realised that the photo had been taken, he then pushed the fan away.

The FIA stewards have now called Hadjar to the stewards over what they describe as an incident - the exact nature is not explicitly described - in the paddock.

Isack Hadjar sent to FIA stewards over Mexican GP fan incident

Hadjar has been referred to the stewards in Mexico City over an alleged misconduct breach. The hearing will be held at 10:15am local time (5:30pm UK time).

The stewards have cited Hadjar as having committed an 'alleged breach of Article 12.1.1.i of the FIA International Sporting Code - Misconduct, relating to an incident in the Formula 1 paddock'.

Appendix B of the FIA's International Sporting Code defines misconduct as follows: "To be understood in particular but not limited to the general use of language (written or verbal), gesture and/or sign that is offensive, insulting, coarse, rude or abusive and might reasonably be expected or be perceived to be coarse or rude or to cause offence, humiliation or to be inappropriate.

"Assaulting (elbowing, kicking, punching, hitting, etc.), incitement to do any of the above."

How Isack Hadjar could be punished over Mexico GP incident

If found guilty of a misconduct offence, the Sporting Code guidelines state that a fine of up to €5,000 may be imposed on the offender involved, 'depending on mitigating or aggravating circumstances'.

Mitigating circumstances are said to include the status of the driver, the status or profile of the championship in which the offence occurred, whether the misconduct was a 'reaction to offensive, aggressive or abusive behaviour by another', as well as a previous record of good behaviour.

Neither Hadjar nor Red Bull Racing have commented on the video at the time of writing.

It was a difficult Friday for Red Bull, with Max Verstappen receiving a one-place grid penalty for a collision with Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson - who also received the same sanction.

Both drivers apologised for their part in the collision, with Verstappen telling reporters after FP2: "At the end of the day it is not going to change my weekend, but if I were him I would act a little smarter, and when you're fighting for your seat it's not very smart behaviour.

"When he saw me coming, he suddenly started to accelerate. I don't know what was going through his head, that he wanted to drive me off the track in the hairpin."
