Michael Carrick provides update on his managerial future amid growing pressure

Michael Carrick is arguably under pressure at Manchester United as he looks to bring success back to the club.

One win in six Premier League games, alongside being knocked out of the EFL Cup, has not put a shine on his managerial reign at the club so far.

Defeat in Madrid on Tuesday further increased pressure whilst defender Lisandro Martinez made his feelings clear in an explosive post-match interview, something he has since apologized for.

Leeds United were the last side that Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United faced in his reign at the club before Carrick took over.

Returning to Elland Road for the first time since that eventful afternoon today, Amorim’s replacement will be looking to avoid a similar fate.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of today’s crunch tie, Michael Carrick has said that he believes he will be given time by the club to deliver success.

“I do, yeah. But it’s not something that I think about,” Carrick said.

“I’m here to win football matches, but winning football matches short term with an eye on developing the club and pushing the club to be great.

“Again, in terms of results and winning things, it’s a great club anyway, but on the pitch, we need to be great.”

Despite his high ambitions, Carrick also admitted that his side have not hit the levels that are needed recently.

“We haven’t quite hit that level in recent times, and I understand that,” the manager added.

“But I don’t think about myself in my own situation, about how much time or what it looks like for me.

“There’s no individual that’s more important than this football club.”

It is clear to see Michael Carrick’s ambitions and pride for Manchester United. Now it is about whether the patience and time needed to deliver on that ambition is handed to the manager.

If time and patience is handed to him, Carrick might just bring the glory days back to Old Trafford. Sacking him at this stage, though, would leave United looking down yet another managerial black hole.
