Washington Commanders cornerback Amik Robertson opened some eyes last week by guaranteeing a Week 8 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We definitely need to win this game, and we will,” Robertson said. “We gotta be detailed, we gotta practice hard, focus on all the little things, and stop making repeated mistakes.”
If you listened to Robertson, it wasn’t your typical guarantee. He expressed Washington’s desperation as a team. At 1-4-1, coming off three disappointing games in a row, the season hinged on Week 8.
On Sunday, Robertson and his teammates backed up his talk, dominating the Eagles 27-10. Washington’s defense was especially strong, sacking Philadelphia quarterback Tanner McKee five times and forcing two turnovers. As he has been all season, Robertson was terrific, allowing four receptions for only 11 yards.
After Sunday’s win, he was asked about his guarantee.
“Of course, I probably had some backlash from it; I just believe in this team, man,” Robertson said. "I know how certain games are going to go our way. And it was our fault. It wasn’t anything that our opponent did (speaking of Washington’s first six games). That’s just how I felt.”
The 5-foot-8 Robertson has been everything and more for the Commanders this season. After signing a two-year deal in March, he’s served as Washington’s No. 1 cornerback through seven games and thrived in the role. Robertson hasn’t only been one of the Commanders’ best defensive players, but he’s been one of their better players overall.
And the grit and attitude that Robertson plays with have given the Commanders something it lacked in 2025.
