H-Town swag! ... I can dig it.
Albert Pujols, a former first baseman who will be in the Hall of Fame one day, is headed to Houston to interview for the Astros' open managerial position, according to ESPN, citing sources Wednesday.
Houston recently hired Randy Flores, a former executive for the St. Louis Cardinals, as the new general manager of the ballclub.
Pujols has been open about his desire to be an MLB manager since his retirement in 2022 as a player. Leading the Leones del Escogido as manager, he won the Dominican winter league championship in his first campaign in 2025 and was also the Dominican Republic's manager in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The national team went on to lose against the United States in the semifinals.
In the last hiring cycle of Major League Baseball, Pujols was a finalist for openings with the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels prior to them hiring Craig Stammen and Kurt Suzuki, respectively.
The in-person interview Pujols will be participating in for the Astros, which is set for Thursday, will be the first with the franchise. Houston is also going through other candidates for the job. According to ESPN, one of them being considered is New York Yankees bench coach Brad Ausmus.
Albert Pujols will eventually find himself a job, and when he does, I'm here for it.
