“I Don’t Know What Else They Need” – Yankees Legend Delivers Reality Check on Aaron Judge’s Comments After Postseason Collapse

Yankees legend Tino Martinez has questioned what more the team needs to do after Aaron Judge urged the front office to go all in following their postseason elimination.

The New York Yankees’ 2026 postseason lasted just five games and ended with a sweep in the American League Division Series. After defeating their historic rivals, the Boston Red Sox, in the Wild Card Series, the Yankees struggled against the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays, with their offensive struggles and defensive mistakes contributing to their exit.

After the elimination, Judge called on the front office to address the team’s weaknesses and make the moves needed to compete for a championship. However, Martinez offered a different perspective on the captain’s comments during his Friday appearance on WFLA News Channel. The former Yankees first baseman praised Judge but questioned whether the roster needed a major overhaul.

He said:

“I love Aaron Judge. He’s a great player, obviously, a great human being, a great leader on that team. I just don’t know what going all-in is. I mean, you need to get a couple more starting pitchers. I mean, you have a staff. I mean, that staff is loaded. You have a great first baseman. You got Ben Rice. You got talents all over the field. And I don’t know what else they need but to play better baseball,” said Martinez.

He added:

“I mean, day in and day out throughout the season, they were inconsistent. They played well enough to make the playoffs, and they made the mistakes on defense a few times and struck out quite a bit of times in the postseason that cost them the chance to not go to the World Series. So, I don’t know how much more talent they can acquire without spending a billion dollars on the team.”

Aaron Judge did not feature in the 2026 postseason after being left off the Yankees’ rosters for both the AL Wild Card Series and the AL Division Series. The captain couldn’t convince the team’s medical staff and front office that he was fit to return. He strained his right soleus muscle on Sept. 16, just seven games after returning from a separate three-month absence caused by a fractured right rib.

What Did Aaron Judge Say After the New York Yankees’ Postseason Exit?

After the Yankees were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Oct. 7, Aaron Judge spoke to reporters at Yankee Stadium.

The captain admitted that the loss was difficult to accept and said he wanted to remember the disappointment and the opportunities the team had missed.

“Just hating every single moment of it. Thinking about the whole year, thinking about missed opportunities in the season, in that series. Things that can be improved on, things I can improve on. Just hating every single moment of it so I don’t forget,” Aaron Judge said.

Judge also made it clear that he expected the front office to make moves to address the team’s shortcomings.

“We’re the Yankees. I feel like they should go all-in and do what they need to do and if we got holes, it’s finding certain players or personnel, whatever we need, we got to go out there and get it. That’s why I signed back here to play with the Yankees, is to fight for a championship every single year and go all-in.”

Aaron Judge finished the 2026 regular season with a .241 batting average, 18 home runs, 57 hits, and 41 RBIs across 66 games.
