Jamie Carragher has told Bradley Barcola to improve his finishing at Liverpool to help justify the transfer fee that the Reds paid for the winger in the summer.
It follows a potentially transformative week for Barcola, who finally got his first few goal involvements of the season to step up for the club at a key moment. That all started with a hat-trick against LASK in the Champions League, where he was handed a start to try and build some momentum after a slow start to life on Merseyside.
The 24-year-old was called upon by Andoni Iraola once again over the weekend, as he kept his left-wing position against Brentford, in a clash that provided plenty of challenges.
After going a goal down, the game was flipped on its head by a red card just before half-time. The second half then played out with Liverpool showing plenty of quality to open up the home side on a few occasions.
Victor Munoz equalized after the break, before Barcola teed up Alexander Isak for the eventual winner, giving the winger his first goal involvement in the Premier League.
It could have been much better for the summer arrival, as he was handed two one-on-one opportunities in plenty of space, but was unable to put them away in the clinical fashion that many would've hoped for.
For Carragher, that is an area that must be improved. Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, the former defender said: "This is an area [finishing chances] that's going to have to improve, because Barcola is a transition monster.
"That is when he's going to be at his absolute best, when he's got space in front of him, he's arguably the quickest player in the Premier League. Maybe at Anfield he is gonna find it a bit tougher when teams are low block, there's not much space.
"But in an away game, that's what he's going to get, and he's going to have to improve that if he's going to end up justifying his fee.
"Liverpool are winning the game, great counterattacking opportunity for someone like Barcola, again space in front of him. Again, 95th minute, Liverpool on the counterattack, this is what it should be about for him.
"We've seen a poor finish, this time we see a poor touch and just doesn't make enough of these situations. I understand he's not going to be Mo Salah, I mean the best finisher, but he has to improve in that because they're going to probably be his goalscoring opportunities, when he has space in front of him."
It's an area that Barcola will certainly be hoping to improve in as the weeks go by, with the winger looking to become one of the main stars in a team that is still rebuilding towards the very top once again.
It remains to be seen whether that will happen, but with matches against the likes of Brighton, Arsenal, and Chelsea coming up, there could be the perfect chance to score even more.
