Just when it seems ex-NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown can’t surprise you anymore, he enters a new side quest – even as he faces an attempted murder charge.
Brown has been booked to make his "comedy debut" at the New England Comedy Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts , on Dec. 18. The website promoting the event said that Brown will perform as well as do meet-and-greet opportunities with fans.
Tickets are on sale now for $77.
Meanwhile, Brown was expected to plead no contest to aggravated assault as part of a deal to avoid jail time, but his court date was postponed. He accepted "an offer he couldn’t refuse" from Miami-Dade County prosecutors after facing a second-degree murder charge and a possible 30-year prison sentence.
His attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in a statement last month that the plea deal offered by prosecutors will "dramatically reduce the criminal charge against him and result in probation rather than a prison sentence."
The charges stemmed from a shooting on May 16, 2025, outside a celebrity boxing event in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami.
Now, there’s nothing remotely funny about the charges Brown faces, as well as the ones he has dealt with since his final NFL day in 2022. However, if Brown is will be self-deprecating with his comedy routine, we can start at that final day.
Brown’s last time on an NFL field was out of a comedy sketch, except he really took off his Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey and pads midway through a game and ran off the field before halftime. He threw up peace signs to the crowd, and it was clear that even he knew at the time it would be his last moment in the league.
Tom Brady was the Buccaneers’ quarterback during that 2022 season, where both he and Brown were coming off a Super Bowl victory in their first season in Tampa. Brown caught a touchdown pass in that 31-9 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
Brown and Brady played together with the New England Patriots , too, after the former was released from the Las Vegas Raiders . However, Brown would get released amid a sexual assault investigation, ending his Patriots career with just one game played.
Since his days in the league, Brown has been a tabloid content machine. For one, he mocked Kamala Harris and her 2024 presidential campaign running mate Tim Walz during one of President Donald Trump’s rallies in Pennsylvania. Then, he started to openly criticize and mock Trump on his social media.
And that’s just for starters.
From harassing Brady over his divorce from Gisele Bündchen on social media to trying to be a rapper and much more, Brown’s post-football life has been one filled with public outbursts and controversial statements and stunts.
But this was a player that was arguably the best at his position midway through his career, collecting seven Pro Bowls and leading the league in receiving twice during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Even then, Brown was causing headaches for his coaches and teammates, whether it be going on Facebook Live in the locker room after beating the Chiefs in the 2017 Divisional Round, or going 100 mph on a 45-mph road hours before a "Thursday Night Football" game.
So, yes, there is loads of comedic material to work with here, though much of it is quite serious including the legal situation he’s going through now.
