Roberto De Zerbi was happy to see his 10-man Tottenham Hotspur side fight until the final whistle and clinch a point against Manchester United away last weekend.
Spurs fans will be hoping that the result at Old Trafford serves as a morale booster and kickstarts our season. Roberto De Zerbi’s men are still languishing in the bottom three and winless in six matches. The North London outfit now have a great chance to get their first Premier League win on the board when they host newly promoted Coventry City on Monday evening.
Premier League great Alan Shearer remarked last week that De Zerbi could lose his job if Spurs suffer a heavy defeat to Man United. While the game may have ended in a 1-1 stalemate, it feels like a psychological victory for the Lilywhites, given that they scored their equaliser in stoppage time and had to play with 10 men for the final 25 minutes.
However, Alan Shearer believes that despite the momentum Spurs have after their late equaliser at Old Trafford, they will be staring at another relegation dogfight if they fail to pick up their first win of the campaign against Coventry City.
“I know they did really well when down to 10 men, coming back and getting a Solanke goal. So, that in itself will give them a bit of confidence, but they need a win massively,” Shearer told Betfair (h/t Football London).
“If they don’t beat Coventry on Monday, then I think they’ll be in a massive relegation battle, and I think that’s how big a game it is.”
Coventry endured a slow start to the season after achieving promotion to the top flight under Frank Lampard. However, they have climbed up the table after securing back-to-back wins.
The Sky Blues entered the international break with a 1-0 away win over Nottingham Forest. They followed it up with a 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United at home at the start of the week. So, it won’t be wrong to suggest that Lampard’s side will be full of confidence heading into the game against Spurs.
The upcoming clash against Coventry gives De Zerbi’s men a stage to put recent frustrations to bed. Tottenham have to go for the jugular and take the game to Coventry from the first whistle. This is a must-win game for De Zerbi.
