Derby County player ratings vs Millwall as dreadful Rams thrashed and pressure mounts

Derby County suffered a dreadful afternoon in the capital as they were brushed aside by Millwall who took a 3-0 lead inside 18 minutes

Derby County's appalling start to the season continued as further pressure was heaped on John Eustace with a 4-1 defeat at Millwall.

A dreadful opening 20 minutes ended the game as a contest with Alex Neil home and hosed thanks to two goals from Kyrell Lisbie and another from Luke Cundle.

Millwall were ahead after just three minutes when Lisbie benefited from some awful defending from Derby defender Max Johnston, who backed off to allow the winger to find the far corner.

Derby were then two down when Caleb Taylor rose unchallenged at the back post to head across goal where Lisbie forced over the line. It was soon 3-0 when Cundle ran through Derby's defence to fire past Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.

Derby did have some chances of their own with Carlton Morris being denied by Max Crocombe while Rhian Brewster also forced a save at the near post.

Millwall could and should have extended their lead, however, but Caleb Taylor headed over and Romain Esse was denied by Zetterstrom.

And they did finally find a fourth goal when Jake Cooper rifled home after poor defending from Johnston before Filip Bilbija scored a consolation late on.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom: Couldn't do much about any of the goals but conceding three is never good and it was an afternoon for everybody to forget. Was as bad, if not worse, than QPR. 4

Max Johnston: Stood and watched Kyrell Lisbie when he refused to engage the winger for the opening goal. If that was not bad enough, he then turned his back. Was a big chance for him due to Joe Ward's injury, but he had a dreadful afternoon. 2

Ryan Nyambe: Sadly the right-back was not as good as he was in the centre of defence as he was at Sheffield United. And the game was over and done with in a disastrous 20 minutes. 3

Jack Robinson: Might be wondering what he's walked into, but it wasn't a good afternoon for any of the back four as Millwall took advantage of a lack of communication and a team that was wide open. 3

Ryan Hedges: Was brilliant at Sheffield United, but couldn't match that performance here. The team was so poor and Derby were lucky it wasn't more as Millwall had further chances. 3

David Ozoh: To compound Derby's misery, he went off injured which is a major blow. However, even before he left the pitch, the game was over and the midfield was non-existent. 2

Bobby Clark: Vacated his midfield position to join the attack, but defensively it was all wrong as Millwall exposed the space he left behind. Doesn't really enjoy the physical battle. 3

Rhian Brewster: Had a shot in the first half that fired across the face of goal when he should have squared it to Szmodics in what was a two v one situation. 3

Sam Szmodics: Didn't really get much joy in the final third as Derby fought a battle that was lost after a terrible opening 20 minutes in which Derby were completely blown away. 3

Henrik Meister: Got done at the back post for the second goal and that's something he is going to have to get to grips with veru quickly. Concedes needless fouls. 3

Carlton Morris: The former Luton striker blazed a good chance over the bar to make it 2-1 then saw a header saved in the second half by Crocombe. 3

Subs

Alex Mowatt (Ozoh 37): Came on when the game was lost. 3

Mo Fuseini (Meister 57): Took a shot from 35 yards which didn't go well. 3

Filip Bilbija (Fraulo 78): Scored his first goal for the club. 4

Lars-Jorgen Salvesen (Morris 78): Tried to make an impact. 4

Oscar Fraulo (Brewster 78): Had the shot that led to the goal. 4
