If there’s one player who doesn’t really get too involved with the public side of the game outside the playing bit, it’s Dujon Sterling.
A pretty quiet lad, he does the media stuff contractually, but does most of his talking on the pitch. This season he has been outstanding.
We know about his brush with the law, and we will never endorse what he did, but he held his hands up, admitted absolute responsibility, and got very, very fortunate. A harsh lesson and hopefully learned.
And for the first time Dujon Sterling has started discussing his Rangers position, future, and contract.
And his admissions are intriguing.
“With my future being questioned in the past, I think that was all outside noise, to be honest. The club and I knew that, once I got back into a stable position, we’re seeing the benefits now. In terms of staying in the future, that depends on the club and me agreeing to something that seems good for both parties. I’m happy, there are no problems and I’m still under contract.”
We’ll admit, we don’t recall any questioning of his future at all, and we’re not sure where he’s hearing that from, unless he was just reciting the question.
There have been no overtures towards him from other clubs, nor any major hype about his contract situation.
He was simply rewarded under Philippe Clement for good displays with a new deal in 2024. And he’d only been at the club for a year and a half when he got that one-year extension.
He’s with the club till summer 2028 at the least, and his statement that he’s happy with the club is an understated bonus for Rangers.
Dujon Sterling has finally found himself at the club amid this contract talk. Sterling has cemented himself at RB. He’s doing a ‘sterling’ job there.
He admits there’s future potential for another deal, if the club and he can find common ground in the future. But we doubt that, for now, he is working on extending his contract. Maybe into the summer if all is still going well for him in Govan.
For now Rangers have a very unsung hero in Sterling who appears to be at Rangers for the long haul.
