Afghanistan had a harrowing experience on Test debut, at Bengaluru in 2018. Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian to score a hundred in the first session of a Test. M Vijay also got a hundred, and the hosts amassed 474 by lunch on the second day. Afghanistan were then bowled out twice on that very day, for 109 and 103: the 20 wickets fell in only 66.3 overs.

But the turnaround was swift, as Afghanistan won their next two Test matches, against Ireland and Bangladesh in 2019. Since then, their outings in the format have been sporadic.
