Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has dropped a huge bombshell over the forward's future with the Portugal national team as his falling out with new manager Jorge Jesus continues.

The 41-year-old left Portugal's training camp during the three-week international break after he was left on the bench in a 2-1 win over Norway in the UEFA Nations League. It was the first time in 18 years that the Al-Nassr star hadn't played a single minute for his country despite being included in the squad.

Ronaldo has since released a statement explaining the situation and how Jesus "broke his word" to give him at least 30 minutes of game time against Norway. He has been provisionally suspended for leaving the camp, but he affirmed in his Instagram post that he intended to continue his international career.

Ronaldo's sister Elma Aveiro has given an update on the former Manchester United star's situation and hinted that the rift between him and Jesus will prevent him from returning. Not only did he take issue with the coach's decision not to bring him on against Norway, but also how he allegedly didn't follow a pre-agreed list of statements for a press conference to address the fallout.

Aveiro spoke while at a book launch event in Lisbon on Wednesday evening which Jesus had also attended. She said regarding Ronaldo's future with Portugal (via Mail Sport): "It's more likely a no than a yes,' she said. 'I think both [Cristiano and Jorge Jesus] are hurt; it was a situation they experienced, not me, I'm speaking for my brother."

Speculation grew over Ronaldo's international future following the World Cup and many assumed he may call time on his career. He decided to play on and even claims to have been crucial in Jesus' appointment having played under him at Al-Nassr.

Aveiro added: "I think it's a situation that's stalled, we'll see what happens... I don't know, it's very complicated. When we're betrayed, it's very difficult to go back to normal."

Ronaldo debuted for Portugal at the age of 18 back in August 2003 and he's since become the nation's all-time top goalscorer with 146 goals in 243 appearances. He captained his country to Euro 2016 glory and has also won two UEFA Nations League trophies.

Ronaldo apologised to his Portugal teammates and fans in his statement and accepted the likelihood that he'd be suspended. A suspension can last anywhere between one to six months and he's also likely to be fined.

The Portuguese Football Federation released a statement confirming Ronaldo had been provisionally suspended: "Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Cristiano Ronaldo pursuant to a decision by the Non-Professional Section dated October 9, 2026, aimed at determining whether the events reported on October 7, 2026, warrant disciplinary action."

The Real Madrid legend had dreamed of winning the World Cup and it's the one trophy evading him. His side crashed out of the tournament in the Round of 16 in the summer after losing 1-0 to eventual winners Spain.

There has been somewhat of a divide in opinion over Ronaldo amongst Portuguese people in reaction to his spat with Jesus. Aveiro is sadeened to see many of them forget what he's achieved:

"My feeling is one of sadness because the Portuguese people unfortunately forget what has already been done and think that things should be done differently now. I'm speechless, it's very difficult to see my brother go through this. He is one of the people who least deserve this."

Ronaldo has been back in action for Al-Nassr since the international break and scored in a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan outfit FC Neftchi Fergana in the AFC Champions League on Monday. He has been playing his club football in Saudi Arabia since January 2023 after a similar disagreement with former United coach Erik ten Hag led to the termination of his contract with the Premier League club.
