Legendary LSU men’s basketball coach Dale Brown to receive 2027 Wooden coaching award

Hall of fame LSU men’s basketball coach Dale Brown has been named as the 2007 recipient of the John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Tuesday.

Brown coached the Tigers from 1972-97, leading LSU to two Final Four appearances, four Southeastern Conference regular-season championships and LSU’s only SEC tournament title. Brown retired as the SEC’s second-winningest men’s coach with 448 career victories and still ranks fourth in that category behind only Kentucky’s Adolph Rupp (846), Florida’s Billy Donovan (467) and John Calipari (460) at Kentucky and Arkansas.

Other recipients of the award include Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Pat Summitt, Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley.

Brown, who turns 91 on Oct. 31, will be formally honored during the John R. Wooden Award ceremony in April 2027 in Los Angeles.
