Jose Mourinho returns to his old stomping grounds as Real Madrid visit Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Madrid are looking to make it a two-win streak in the Champions League, while Roma, still looking for their first win in the competition, will try to turn the Olimpico crowd into a weapon.

Madrid look to win again on the road

Real Madrid arrive off a 1-0 win over Villarreal in La Liga. They also won their Champions League opener against Inter Milan and are on a five-game scoring streak, though they’ve also conceded in their last four away games.

Madrid have dominated this series, with eight wins in 12 meetings and five wins in six at the Olimpico. The last meeting was a 2-0 Madrid win.

Roma look for their first Champions League win

Gian Piero Gasperini’s team has one point from the teams opening draw against Fenerbahce and sits 17th in the table, four places behind Madrid in 13th.

Roma are currently third in Serie A, within two points of Inter and Lazio, and they haven’t lost in seven games. With today’s game, they’re looking to bring some of this luck to the Champions League.

Team news

Madrid are without Eder Militao, whom Mourinho has ruled out of this game and the upcoming Sevilla match despite his return to group training. Vinícius Júnior is notably suspended for the next three La Liga games, but that domestic ban doesn’t apply to the Champions League.

For Roma, captain Bryan Cristante is a major doubt. If he misses out, Marten de Roon is expected to play alongside Manu Kone, with Niccolo Pisilli as another option. Konstantinos Koulierakis is also out with a leg injury.

Predicted lineups

  • Roma: Svilar; Mancini, Balerdi, Hermoso; Wesley, de Roon, Kone, Molina; Dybala, Soule, Malen.
  • Real Madrid: Courtois; Dumfries, Konate, Huijsen, Cucurella; Tchouameni, Bellingham; Güler, Bernardo Silva, Diomande; Mbappe.
