The Packers made roster moves that includes activating Savion Williams from injured reserve and elevating two players from the practice squad.
GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers placed nose tackle Jonathan Ford, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and receiver Skyy Moore on injured reserve and activated wide receiver Savion Williams from injured receiver, the club announced Saturday, Oct. 17.
The Packers also elevated edge defender Arron Mosby and receiver Coleman Owen from the practice squad to the game day roster.
The moves with Ford, Hargrave, Moore and Williams leave the Packers with 50 players on their roster. They will likely use two of the spots for running back Josh Jacobs and nose tackle Jordon Riley, who are expected to return next week.
The Packers hadn’t indicated that Ford’s calf injury was serious enough to place him on injured reserve. He attempted to practice Thursday but dropped out of practice after only a few minutes into the team’s warm-up period. Ford was in pads and appeared ready to take part in some part of the full practice.
Hargrave’s placement was expected after he ruptured his right Achilles in the Packers’ victory over the Chicago Bears Oct. 11. Moore said on Oct. 15 that he had suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Bears, so it isn’t surprising he was put on injured reserve given that injury often requires a month or more of recovery.
Losing Ford and Hargrave creates a depth problem on the defensive line.
The Packers have four defensive tackles expected to be active against the Dallas Cowboys on Oct 18. Starters Devonte Wyatt and Karl Brooks and backup Chris McClellan are healthy. Another backup, Anthony Campbell, has missed the past three games with an ankle injury, but practiced all week and was listed as questionable.
Adding Mosby may let edge rusher Lukas Van Ness help more at defensive tackle. Van Ness moves to defensive tackle in certain packages, so the position isn’t foreign to him.
Activating Williams helps mitigate the loss of Moore, who is the team’s kickoff returner and was seeing more time at receiver. Williams, a third-round draft pick in 2025, is a big receiver with return ability who should be able to help replace Moore offensively.
He also returned 28 kickoffs last year and can fill that role.
How much the 6-foot-4, 222-pound Williams can play is a question mark. He was placed on injured reserve before the final preseason game due to an ankle injury and returned to practice the week of the Bears game.
In his rookie season, Williams played in 12 games. He caught 10 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown and ran 11 times for 37 yards. He averaged 25.6 yards per kickoff return.
Owen, who was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 30, excelled as a slot receiver at Northern Arizona and would be available to fill some of Moore’s slot work if Williams is limited or isn’t used there. Owen also has returned kickoffs and punts and could replace Moore in both spots.
The 5-10, 181-pound Owen signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and participated in training camp this summer. But he was placed on injured on Aug. 30 and released a week later.
He has played in two games and returned five kickoffs for 141 yards (28.2 average) and one punt for 2 yards.
At Ohio University in 2024, Owen started in all 14 games and caught 78 passes for 1,245 yards, and eight touchdowns. He also returned 17 punts for 132 yards and one touchdown.
