Since a one-possession loss to Baylor (TN) back on Sept. 11, Trinity (KY) has been nearly untouchable, closing out the regular season with consecutive shutouts and scoring a lot of points in the process.
With a plethora of weapons on the Shamrocks' offense, any Friday night could be the night for one to stand out. On Oct. 23, in a 49-0 win over Oldham County (KY), junior running back Ashton Taylor owned the night.
Following a poll of the USA TODAY Sports audience, Taylor was voted as the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 Playmaker of the Week following a four-touchdown night for the No. 18 Shamrocks. He scored three of his four touchdowns in the first quarter.
Taylor began his four-touchdown night early, turning a surprise onside kick into a 6-yard touchdown scamper two minutes in. On Trinity's next possession, Shamrocks quarterback Zane Johnson found Taylor wide-open for a 24-yard touchdown reception.
He would add his final touchdown of the quarter in the closing minutes to give Trinity a 35-0 lead after just 12 minutes of play.
Not needing to play their starters longer than necessary, the Shamrocks focused mostly on giving their younger backups more playing time in the second half. Before he was pulled, Taylor added one more touchdown in the third quarter, scoring from three yards out.
Trinity, the top-ranked team in Kentucky, closed the season by outscoring its final six opponents 279-0. They'll look to continue that trend in November as they open up postseason play at home against Pleasure Ridge Park (KY) on Nov. 6.
