We’re approaching the 90th minute of tonight’s Chelsea – Liverpool game in the EFL Cup.

Both sides have made a host of changes in the second half, and the teams are almost unrecognisable compared to those which started the game. But one player who is not coming on is Estevao Willian.

The Brazilian winger was expected to start tonight – instead, he won’t get a minute on the pitch. Various journalists in the stadium have noticed that Chelsea fans have been signing for the wonderkid winger for most of the second half.

Change after change has come, but manager Xabi Alonso has not reached for his wildcard. It continues a worrying trend, as rumours swirl that the youngster isn’t happy with his game time.

This is about more than just the winger and his future – although that’s a major story and something fans are very worried about.

But this is also the first real open show of dissent from the away fans toward their new manager. He’s got plenty of patience left, but this shows that the shine is starting to come off the new man, especially in the wake of a frustrating loss to Tottenham.
